How it's made
The lost wax method
Our most used technique is the lost wax method, a craft that dates back thousands of years, used by ancient goldsmiths and modern artisans alike. It all starts with a small sculpture, shaped by hand in wax. This isn’t a quick or mechanical process, because every piece is unique. Each wax model is carved, molded, and refined. We already set the stones in wax, but remove most of them before sending them of to best casted. This is because most stones cannot resist the heat of melting metal.
Once the wax model is complete, we send it to the caster. They make a special plaster-like mold. Then, through a process of heat and patience, the wax is melted and drains away, leaving behind a perfect negative space: a hollow echo of the original form. Into this void, we pour molten recycled silver or gold, sourced responsibly to reduce environmental impact and give new life to precious metals.
Once this stage is complete, the jewelry returns to us for the final, delicate steps: stone setting and polishing. This part of the process requires precision and patience, setting gemstones is a fragile task, where even the slightest pressure can cause a stone to crack. With steady hands and full focus, we secure each stone in place. Once set, the piece is gently polished to bring out its natural shine. After that the piece is ready to go to it's new owner!
In addition to working with wax, we also sculpt directly with metal clay—a remarkable material that allows us to shape organic forms entirely by hand. It’s especially useful when we’re looking to create a piece with unique textures or intricate, unconventional details that would be difficult to achieve through other methods.
Metal clay feels like soft clay, but it’s actually made from tiny particles of metal mixed with a natural binder. Once the design is shaped and completely dry, we carefully fire it. This step requires precision—too hot, and the piece can melt; too cool, and the binder won’t fully burn away. We aim for the perfect temperature where all the organic material is fired off, leaving behind only solid metal.
After firing, the piece transforms from a delicate clay form into durable silver or bronze. Just like with our lost wax pieces, the final step is all about refinement—filing, sanding, and polishing until the metal shines and the design truly comes to life.
